The UCW core team is comprised of a small multi-disciplinary group of experts from a variety of backgrounds. Additional contributions to UCW research are provided by experts in various fields from Government, academia and international development agencies.

  Furio Camillo Rosati
Project Manager

Professor Rosati has led the UCW Programme since its inception in 2000. He is a Professor of Public Economics at the University of Rome (Tor Vergata) and has worked extensively on international development issues both academically and as an advisor to Governments and multilateral institutions. Professor Rosati has an extensive research record in fields ranging from public finance to household economics and has published widely in leading international journals. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Maria Gabriella Breglia
Researcher/Programme Officer

In her time with UCW, Gabriella has provided critical support to research, research dissemination and project planning. She has also helped to manage external partnerships and government liaison, and played a lead role in outreach activities aimed at promoting policy debate on child labour and related issues. Gabriella holds a Master diploma in Development Economics and International Cooperation from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

  Giuseppe Dachille
Researcher/Empirical analysis

Giuseppe joined UCW in 2014 from the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance in Rome, where he was part of a research team focused on household finance. His research interests include impact evaluation, labour economics, youth employment and household finance. His publications include a study on school to work transitions in less-industrialised countries. Giuseppe holds a Ph.D. in Econometrics and Empirical Economics from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Lorenzo Guarcello
Senior Researcher/Statistics and empirical analysis

Lorenzo Guarcello is the lead researcher in the areas of statistics and empirical analysis. Through UCW and collaboration with UNICEF, ILO and the World Bank, he has made substantial research contributions in areas including the translation of child labour legal standards into statistical terms and the development of indicators and statistics relating to child labour and youth employment outcomes. Lorenzo holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Salerno in Italy.

  Scott Lyon
Senior Researcher/Policy and Planning

Scott Lyon is the lead researcher in the areas of policy analysis and planning. His research interests include child rights, labour markets, social security and the interplay between child labour and education. He previously worked for seven years as a programme officer for UNICEF in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where he supported research and cooperation programmes relating to child rights in a variety of MENA countries. Scott holds an M.A. in Economics from Queen’s University in Canada.

  Cristina Valdivia
Researcher/Statistics and empirical analysis

In her time with UCW, Cristina has helped develop and manage the UCW Country Database, supported capacity building efforts and made substantial contributions to a wide range of UCW publications and country reports. Cristina holds a Master diploma in Development Economics and International Co-operation at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
